SUPERMOTION!!!

We have just finished our project with The Arches for 'shhh!...(not so silent) film festival' this was soooo much fun. I loved every second of it. It was a great experience to work on a project outside the academy with time restrictions and a clear deadline. We had our first meeting with Erin from the arches and beth from 'The Forest of Black' a Glasgow based production company. It was an informal chat about music videos we liked and which worked well with the music. Beth showed us many Michel Gondry videos, which I just love! And some from Spike Jonze, these two really pushed the boundaries technically, at the time they were made. We watched some that were simpler making them just as effective.

We had been sent a track from each of the bands to listen to before the meeting, so that we would have a preference. We would be working in pairs unless anyone really wanted to work alone, everyone wanted to collaborate with someone to get the most out of the experience. I was really luckily paired with Gavin. I was really pleased about this because we work well together and also the two of us had discussed the idea of animating something together and a structured project like this was perfect to get us going. We both had the same thoughts for the style 'geek chic' we wanted clean cut shapes, retro colours and bold edges, 3D, old school comuter games (like space invaders, tetris, mortal kombat ect) Rubix cube ect. So one we had all these things to start from, we decided what we wanted animated, live action, mixed & drawn. We had a few hours to film on Friday after class, this was really fun. We had wanted the whole class to dance to the first part of the song so that we could put them in the rubix cube. We had anticipated this being rather awkward perhaps, but it was completely the opposite. Galina was first in the chair and just went for it 100%!!! Everyone just stood stunned by her moves! Everyone joined in and they were all amazing, thats what I love about the class they will give you 100% even if you are asking them to do something ridiculous! (Me & Gavin actually had a sheet of dance moves just incase we had to give suggestions, after watching Galina's we just threw it to one side!)
Gavin and I agreed that the video is actually a really nice class video, it will be funny to look back on later!

We had a full day of editing, this went really well. We spent hours in Gavin's room having occasional breaks for cookies and some 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' karaoke!-good times...
We finished it at about 2.30 the next day and burnt it to a disk to give to 'The Forest of Black' the next day. We thought we might be the first to hand it in, but Beth said she only had one other...Benoit's!-See he's not always late!
The main event was really good fun. It tied in really well with Andy's class actually, it was looking at silent cinema with mimes who had to write on cue cards. Then the sound began with the bands playing. At the end they showed our videos, then Erin introduced us to Ben Butler (who's actually called Joe!) He said he really liked the video and thanked us for making it! As his reaction was my main concern, this was a great way to end the evening.
I thought this was a really fun and interesting project, I loved how different all the videos were and Im really glad I could be a part of it.
